Best Exfoliator for Men in 2025: Smoother Skin in Minutes

Exfoliation removes the layer of dead skin cells that makes your face look dull, rough, and older than it should. It’s the fastest way to get visibly smoother, brighter skin — often after just one use. But doing it wrong (too often or too harsh) can wreck your skin barrier. Here’s how to get it right.

Best Exfoliators for Men

Product Type Best For Price
Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant Chemical (BHA) Oily skin, acne, blackheads $34
The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Chemical (AHA+BHA) Deep exfoliation 1x/week $8
CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser Chemical (SA) Daily gentle exfoliation $15
Brickell Renewing Face Scrub Physical Men who prefer scrubs $25
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Enzyme powder Sensitive skin $63

Chemical vs Physical Exfoliation

Chemical (recommended): Uses acids (AHA, BHA, PHA) to dissolve dead skin cells. More even, less irritating, better for preventing ingrown hairs. AHAs (glycolic, lactic acid) work on the surface for brightness. BHAs (salicylic acid) penetrate pores for acne. Physical: Uses scrub particles to manually buff away dead skin. Less precise but satisfying. Risk of micro-tears if particles are too rough (avoid walnut shell scrubs). Our recommendation: Start with chemical exfoliation 2-3x per week. It’s more effective and harder to overdo.
